The reasons for this were high demand from the Indian side and favorable price conditions. This information was reported by the newspaper “Vedomosti,” citing a review by the Price Index Center (PIC).
Demand is also being seen from Southeast Asian countries. Thus, Russian coal exports in the first summer month, compared with the same period last year, increased to 20.6 million tonnes – up by 18%.
“Export growth in June was mainly driven by a significant increase in shipments to India and the continued high interest from buyers in Southeast Asian countries,” “Vedomosti” writes, referring to the PIC review.
According to the publication, from January to June, Russian coal exports increased by 6% year-on-year and amounted to 105.3 million tonnes. Supplies to India in June rose by 48% to 3.5 million tonnes, while exports to Vietnam reached 1.3 million tonnes. PIC Director Evgeny Grachev explained to “Vedomosti” that the increase in exports was influenced by the recovery of global coal prices and growing demand from Asian buyers.
