In April of this year, Denis Manturov, First Deputy Chairman of the Government of Russia and Co-Chair of the Russian-Indian Intergovernmental Commission for Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technical and Cultural Cooperation, visited New Delhi.
During the working visit, he held bilateral meetings with the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi; the Minister of Foreign Affairs of India and Co-Chair of the Russian-Indian intergovernmental commission, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar; the Prime Minister’s adviser on national security, Ajit Doval; as well as with the Minister of Finance of India, Nirmala Sitharaman.
A key focus of the talks was the expansion of mutually beneficial trade, investment and cooperation links between Russia and India. The representatives of both countries discussed specific steps to create favorable conditions necessary to increase trade volumes.
Denis Valentinovich noted that, based on the results of last year, supplies of mineral fertilizers to India increased by 40%, and emphasized that Russia is ready to continue meeting India’s needs for this product. At present, the two countries are working on a joint project for the production of carbamide.
Another important area of the negotiations was cooperation in the oil and gas sector. Denis Manturov said that Russian oil and gas companies have the ability to consistently increase oil and liquefied natural gas deliveries to the Indian market.
In addition, the parties will continue strengthening partnership ties in the field of nuclear energy. A project to build power units for the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant – the largest facility of technological and energy cooperation between Russia and India – is already being implemented. Manturov said that Russia sees significant prospects for expanding cooperation with India in this area.
Also, as part of the working visit, the parties held a detailed discussion on cooperation in industrial cooperation, space and education.
